Yellowstone Park
Several rockfall events took place in the area to the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming after a weather event. Intense rainfall of 8” in a short period induced rockfalls and rock slides that closed roads and damaged existing infrastructure.
Getting to work around the Yellowstone National Park was a highlight with history that includes an archaeological record of more than 11,000 years of human use and documenting the development of the national park idea since 1872.
Project Overview
Geovert were contracted by WYDOT to undertake urgent rockfall mitigation works at Buffalo Bill Reservoir, Wind River Canyon and Paint Creek.
Heavy rock scaling was required to remove boulders, blocks and defects left after the rockfall events. A 250ft 2000kJ Maccaferri rockfall barrier was built at the roads edge near the reservoir to replace the one that was damaged.
Using a company with 20 years’ experience in building rockfall protection systems gave our client total reassurance that the barriers will be built properly to the highest standards.
