Reduced hazard exposure for personnel and operational facilities.
Enhanced long-term operational safety of powerhouse and abutments.
Minimized environmental impact during construction through tailored installation techniques.
Project delivered to stringent safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Project
Solution
Systematic scaling and safe removal of loose rock from both dam abutments.
Installation of specialised rockfall protection systems tailored to the site’s geological profile.
Engineering and deployment of custom ice protection systems at critical points around the dam.
Developed techniques to prevent debris entry and protect the river environment.
Careful scheduling and coordination with dam operators ensured all works were delivered within shutdown windows.
Combined rockfall and icefall protection solutions into an integrated system providing year-round resilience.
Project
Challenges
Remote site access constraints around a large dam structure.
Complex logistics for handling and installing heavy materials.
Precision-critical rock removal in close proximity to operational infrastructure.
Strict alignment with planned power shutdown windows to avoid operational disruption.
Requirement to design protection systems adaptable to both geological and seasonal (icefall) hazards.

Project
Overview
Geovert was engaged to deliver a Design and Construct project enhancing safety at Yellowtail Dam. The works addressed immediate rockfall and icefall hazards across multiple sectors of the dam, including both abutments and the powerhouse area, with the goal of protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted power generation.
The remote location and restricted access conditions required innovative planning, custom systems, and precise execution within tightly controlled shutdown windows.
