Results
Successful stabilisation across multiple cut heights and site conditions
Continuous operations maintained despite challenging weather events
Operational flexibility ensured efficient resource use and consistent progress
Improved resilience and safety for future road users
Project
Solution
Delivered slope stabilisation through rock bolting, soil nailing, mesh installation, manual scaling, shotcrete, and drainage systems
Deployed three specialised drilling setups: crane-mounted rigs, High Reach Drill, and excavator-mounted drill masts
Applied protective coatings and denso tape to meet 100-year design life requirements
Installed over 14,000m of bolts and nails and 22,000m² of mesh systems
Project
Challenges
Coordinating with multiple contractors (earthworks, blasting, drilling) without disrupting critical path activities
Exposure to intense rainfall requiring rapid adaptation of equipment configurations
Large-scale access demands across varied site conditions and weather

Project
Overview
The Puhoi to Warkworth motorway extension is a critical 18.5km link in New Zealand’s State Highway network, designed to ease congestion and improve freight efficiency north of Auckland. Construction required cutting into steep slopes up to 50m high, creating risks of rockfall and instability along the new alignment. Geovert was engaged to deliver large-scale slope stabilisation works across multiple cuttings, implementing a suite of ground engineering techniques while coordinating closely with the joint venture and other contractors to maintain programme momentum.
