Overview
Severe storm events in late 2020 triggered debris flows that impacted properties below the Karehana Bay Scenic Reserve in Plimmerton, Wellington.
To mitigate ongoing risks to the community, Porirua City Council commissioned the installation of specialised debris flow barriers across three channels within the reserve. Access restrictions, environmental sensitivities, and steep terrain meant conventional construction methods were not feasible. Geovert developed and delivered tailored solutions to safely construct Geobrugg VX barriers, ensuring long-term protection for residents and infrastructure below.
