Results
Successfully stabilised the slope while keeping Eastern Hutt Road operational throughout.
Demonstrated the effectiveness of crane-basket drilling as a flexible method for steep, high-risk environments.
Delivered a robust long-term solution that reduced future rockfall risk to commuters and infrastructure.
Project
Solution
Deployed rope-access crews in tandem with a crane basket drilling platform, enabling safe drilling operations where no conventional equipment could reach.
Installed soil nails and shotcrete reinforcement in stages, maintaining slope stability while minimising road closures.
Applied high-tensile mesh and erosion control matting to secure surface material and reduce future risk.
Project
Challenges
Steep slopes directly above a live arterial road with constant commuter traffic.
Limited access and unsuitable ground conditions for traditional tracked or wagon drills.
Safety-critical environment requiring work at height in close proximity to the public.

Project
Overview
Eastern Hutt Road, a heavily trafficked commuter route in the Hutt Valley, was threatened by unstable slopes following significant slip activity. The project required stabilisation measures that could be delivered safely over live traffic with minimal disruption to road users. The scope combined soil nails, mesh, and drainage, with the added complexity of difficult access and steep faces that ruled out conventional plant.
To address this, Geovert implemented a combined rope access and crane-basket drilling methodology that allowed safe and efficient delivery of the works while ensuring ongoing road access.
