Results

  • Comprehensive structural integrity assessment completed safely.

  • Accurate mapping of reinforcing and condition of brick lining seals.

  • Non-destructive testing provided reliable data for engineering analysis.

  • Access systems allowed full survey without disruption to operations.

Project

Solution

  • Rope access ascent using Hilti mechanical shear set bolts for anchorage.

  • Use of cover meters to map reinforcing and identify core sample locations.

  • Bore scope surveys of core sample holes to assess strata and lining seals.

  • Schmitt Hammer and Impact Echo testing to evaluate material condition.

  • Structural integrity survey of access ladders and platforms.

  • Repair of all test holes upon completion.

Project

Challenges

  • Safe access to a 60m brick chimney stack.

  • Requirement for detailed inspection of brickwork, lining, and reinforcing.

  • Need for accurate testing while maintaining the integrity of the structure.

Project

Overview

An integrity survey was completed on the 60m high double brick-lined chimney stack at QAL, working in collaboration with GHD consultants. Rope access and mechanical anchoring systems enabled full inspection of the structure from base to crest, with a range of non-destructive testing methods applied to assess condition and performance.
