Results

  • Full tunnel length successfully sealed against water ingress.

  • Structural performance of the tunnel lining improved.

  • Works completed safely while maintaining potable water supply integrity.

Project

Solution

  • Installation of caps on grout ports within isolated lining sections.

  • Sequential grouting process starting from the lowest ports and progressing upwards.

  • Construction of grout barrier rings to control grout flow.

  • Grout design and testing carried out prior to production works.

Project

Challenges

  • Requirement to strengthen tunnel lining while maintaining water supply security.

  • Risk of grout loss between neighbouring ports during injection.

  • Need for controlled sequencing to ensure complete void filling and sealing.

grouting for water ingress

Project

Overview

SEQ Water commissioned upgrade works on the Nerang Tunnel to strengthen the lining and seal against water ingress. The project involved constructing grout flow barrier rings and completing contact grouting progressively along the tunnel, ensuring the integrity of a key potable water supply asset for the Gold Coast region.
