Results
Full project delivered with zero operational downtime
Maintained complete environmental compliance
Reinforced QAL’s trust in Geovert as a preferred maintenance partner
Showcased the effectiveness of rope access in high-risk infrastructure work
Project
Solution
Scaffold and custom environmental encapsulation designed to enclose the elevated pipe safely
Abrasive blasting carried out within containment to avoid contamination
Protective coating applied using airless spray systems for speed and quality
All work executed under Geovert’s rope access protocols for safe, agile operations
Project
Challenges
Live gas main remained in operation for 100% of the works
Access complexity due to height and proximity to other structures
Strict environmental and contamination control requirements

Project
Overview
Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) is one of the largest alumina refineries in Australia, producing 3.80 million tonnes of smelter-grade alumina annually. Geovert has been a long-term shutdown and maintenance partner at the site for over a decade, delivering a range of critical inspection, blasting, and coating services.
In this project, QAL required a 350m-long gas main to be remediated through abrasive blasting and protective coating - while remaining fully operational. Located at height and surrounded by active infrastructure, the works required exceptional precision, containment, and planning.
