Earlier this month, Geovert's Hannah Thomas joined thousands of mining professionals at SME MINEXCHANGE Conference 2026 in Salt Lake City, one of the industry's most significant annual events, featuring over 100 technical sessions, an expo hall with nearly 600 exhibitors, and a broad program spanning mineral exploration, water management, permitting, and the evolving energy landscape.
Hannah presented DEI Starts with 'I': Embracing the Individual to Build True Inclusion — a session that tackled something the industry doesn't always make room for: the deeply human side of how we work together. Rather than starting with frameworks or policy, Hannah went further back - to the self-awareness and individual experience that shapes whether people truly feel they belong in a workplace. She also joined the panel on I&D Challenges and Opportunities in Mining, alongside a strong group of industry leaders actively working in this space - including former Breaking Ground interviewee Amanda Adams.
The response from attendees was immediate and genuine, with feedback and conversation continuing well after the event, reaching people who hadn't even been in the room.
It's a reminder of something we think about at Geovert: that the expertise we bring to our technical work sits alongside an equally genuine commitment to people and culture. The two aren't in competition. The strongest teams in this industry are built on both, and that's what we're working to be.
We're proud of what Hannah brought to Salt Lake City, and we're looking forward to what comes next.
