Results
Transmission tower successfully underpinned and secured above new highway excavation.
100-year design life achieved, meeting durability and safety requirements.
Strict construction tolerances maintained through scaffold-supported anchor fabrication and handling.
High program efficiency achieved while delivering a critical risk-mitigation measure for national infrastructure.
Works completed safely in proximity to critical live transmission infrastructure.
Project
Solution
Installed more than 100 15m long pre-grouted DCP ground anchors with high tensile bar.
Established scaffold structures for pre-grouting, curing, and crane-assisted lifting to manage anchor tolerances.
Conducted staged construction, ensuring anchors and shotcrete stabilised each cut before progressing excavation.
Verified grout quality and curing performance through destructive testing of sample anchors.
Implemented crane-based installation to carefully lower pre-grouted anchors into position without deformation.
Applied shotcrete facing to complement anchors and provide long-term slope stability.
Project
Challenges
Excavation works immediately adjacent to a high-voltage transmission tower on a steep crest.
Requirement for 100-year design life in accordance with BS8081:2015.
Over 100 long (15m) DCP anchors required, each needing pre-grouting and curing.
Anchors had to be transported and installed without bending or cracking.
Strict program requirements necessitating parallel fabrication, curing, and installation.
Need to test and verify grout integrity throughout construction under engineer supervision.

Project
Overview
As part of the Transmission Gully SH1 alignment, excavation works were required close to a Transpower transmission tower perched on a steep crest. To underpin the tower and stabilise the slope, Geovert designed and installed a system of ground anchors and shotcrete, engineered for a 100-year design life.
Over 100 pre-grouted double corrosion protected anchors were fabricated and installed on a critical path program, with staged construction and rigorous testing to ensure structural integrity and ongoing stability of this nationally significant asset.
