Resultados

  • Delivered substantial ground support works across the bridge abutment and adjacent embankment, incorporating two complementary stabilisation systems to meet the project's engineering requirements.

  • Improved consistency and quality control during anchor preparation through vertical assembly and grouting, while reducing the risk of damage to the double corrosion protection system.

  • Supported the wider construction programme through adaptable drilling equipment and close coordination with HEB Construction and other contractors operating across the site.

  • Contributed to the progression of the SH29 Omanawa Bridge Replacement, supporting the development of improved transport infrastructure along this important regional freight corridor.

Solución del proyecto

  • Developed an on-site assembly methodology for the 7 m double corrosion protection anchors, using a purpose-built scaffolding arrangement to assemble each anchor as a single unit and avoid potential damage during transport and handling.

  • Assembled the anchors vertically to allow controlled placement of the grout column, reducing the potential for voids, cracking and trapped air before lifting the completed units into pre-drilled holes using a 15-tonne excavator and cradle.

  • Utilised a 20-tonne excavator with interchangeable drill mast fittings to undertake drilling across both work areas, allowing the team to adapt equipment configurations to suit the different anchor and soil nail requirements.

  • Installed approximately 800m of double corrosion protection anchors and 2,000 m of soil nails, together with 600m² of mesh netting and 240 m³ of 40 MPa shotcrete.

  • Implemented activity-specific engineering controls in coordination with HEB Construction, drawing on experience delivering ground support works alongside live highways and within constrained infrastructure sites.

Desafíos del proyecto

  • The project required two distinct ground support systems, comprising a soil-nailed mesh wall and an anchored shotcrete retaining wall, with different drilling and installation requirements across the site.

  • Installation of double corrosion protection anchors presented additional handling and assembly requirements to maintain the integrity of the protective system and ensure consistent grout quality.

  • Working adjacent to an active state highway and directly above the river required carefully planned construction methods and engineering controls to manage site-specific risks.

  • Coordinating drilling, anchoring, mesh installation and shotcrete works alongside multiple contractors demanded flexible scheduling to accommodate the wider bridge replacement programme.

Ground anchoring, soil nailing and shotcrete stabilisation to support bridge replacement NZ

Descripción general del proyecto

Geovert was engaged by HEB Construction to deliver ground stabilisation works for the SH29 Omanawa Bridge Replacement in Tauranga, New Zealand. The project forms part of the Tauriko West to Tupenga Road of National Significance programme, which includes construction of a new bridge and realignment of SH29 to improve safety and reliability along a key freight route connecting Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga. Geovert's scope involved stabilising the bridge abutment and adjacent road embankment through ground anchoring, soil nailing, mesh installation and shotcrete construction. The works commenced as part of the wider construction programme in October 2025, with multiple contractors operating across an active highway and river crossing.
