Resultados
Completed the stabilisation programme ahead of the next wet season, reducing the duration of construction activities along the affected road corridor.
Maintained traffic access throughout the works, allowing road users to continue using this important Rex Range connection during the regional recovery period.
Reduced overall project downtime through simultaneous construction at two sites, bringing the completion date forward.
Delivered integrated slope stabilisation, drainage, erosion protection and rockfall mitigation across the three locations, addressing the identified road infrastructure hazards.
Solución del proyecto
Undertook staged excavation at Sites 2 and 3, applying an initial blinding shotcrete layer to protect the exposed batters before progressing with permanent stabilisation works.
Drilled and grouted 150mm diameter soil nail holes, installing 28mm hot-dip galvanised solid bars with double corrosion protection and corrugated sheathing, together with sub-horizontal drainage systems.
Constructed 160mm thick structural shotcrete retaining walls incorporating Megaflo 170 strip drains, double layers of galvanised reinforcement mesh and expansion joints at 12m intervals.
Installed rock-filled aprons and rock mattresses at the wall toes to manage erosion, together with reinforced concrete beams to accommodate road safety barriers.
Installed three sections of T35 rockfall barrier at Site 6, providing a combined barrier length of 50 m.
Progressed stabilisation works at Sites 2 and 3 simultaneously rather than sequentially, reducing the overall construction programme.
Desafíos del proyecto
Stabilisation works at Sites 2 and 3 required staged excavation of the downslope batters while keeping the road operational, limiting available working space and construction sequencing.
Delivering three separate work areas along a winding mountain road required careful coordination of equipment, personnel and construction activities across the sites.
The programme was constrained by the approaching Far North Queensland wet season, requiring efficient delivery to minimise the risk of further weather-related disruption.

Descripción general del proyecto
Geovert was engaged to deliver slope stabilisation and rockfall protection works along the Mossman to Mount Molloy Road in Far North Queensland, as part of the regional recovery programme following ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023, which caused extensive landslips, flooding and damage to road infrastructure. The scope covered downhill slope stabilisation at two sites and rockfall barrier installation at a third, along the winding Rex Range road connecting Mossman and Mount Molloy. Maintaining traffic access and completing the works ahead of the next wet season were central to the project's delivery.
