ROLE

  • Carry out Non destructive inspections on various work fronts including tanks, pipework and general fabrications in accordance with company procedures and standards.

ROLE

Geovert is seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Estimation, Design and Engineering Manager to work within our geotechnical division in the Sydney head office. Reporting directly to the Ground Engineering Manager, the role of the Design & Estimation (D&E) Manager is to lead and coordinate all aspects of the full design & estimation function and team to ensure the timely delivery of designs and/or tenders (to comply with design works). This role will work with Operations to ensure tenders are developed and cost to maximise outcomes for the business across all regions of operations. Finally, the role will work with operations to ensure an effective “handover” and setup of the project is performed and the team understands all aspects of the project for successful completion. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Geotechnical Engineering with professional English numeric, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to ‘think outside the box’.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordination of the tender process
  2. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to coordinate bid pricing, technical specification, schedules, contracts and commercial terms.
  3. Review all design briefs and documents provided by clients and look for engineering efficiencies to provide better (financial or operational) solutions.
  4. Interpretation of plans, drawings and specifications
  5. Material take off from drawings and specifications
  6. Scheduling and programming using MS Project
  7. Estimation from first principals
  8. Preparation of documents, calculations, drawings, dimensions, etc using software which is either unique or in conformance with client designs.
  9. Attending pre-tender site meetings/visits
  10. Evaluation of risk
  11. Preparation of basic design calculations
  12. Able to work individually and part of team
  13. Subcontractor liaison & negotiation

As the Design and Estimation Manager you will be responsible for

  1. Effectively oversee the activities of the team members in terms of priorities, performance, development and interaction with other departments within Geovert.
  2. The effective leadership of the team to deliver the agreed outcomes of the function
  3. Act as the point of contact for all work performed by the D&E team with operational teams.
  4. Ensure appropriate training and familiarisation for the team members in terms of the work to be performed and the outcomes required.

To be successful and meet the challenges of this position you must have: 

  1. Hold relevant tertiary qualification and professional accreditations  
  2. Minimum 8 years’ experience within ground engineering  
  3. Proven ability to win projects and deliver within specific timeframes  
  4. Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) 
  5. Demonstrable competence in professional written English communication 
  6. Demonstrable experience in professional verbal English communication 
  7. The ability to thoroughly negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to ascertain the best quality outcomes for the business.
