AIM Past Project
Rio Tinto Alcan Yarwun (RTAY) is a world class alumina refinery situated ten kilometres northwest of Gladstone in Central Queensland. The Yarwun refinery has the capacity to produce 3.4 million tonnes of alumina per annum.
Geovert, via our specialist NDT provider Vertest, supply highly skilled technicians to undertake statutory inspections of the evaporation flash tanks including internal and external inspection and fit for service sign off of the vessel upon completion of any repair works.
Repair works identified by Vertest are undertaken by Geovert directly utilising our locally based multi skilled trade qualified team of boiler makers and fitters.

For each tank shutdown, Geovert provide 10 rope access NDT technicians, with ISO 9712 equivalent qualifications in MT, UT and PT methods running day and night shift. Along with these NDT technicians, two AICIP qualified plant inspectors on opposing shifts to oversee all inspection and repair works.
This work team is mobilised as a FIFO arrangement over and above our core locally based workforce, with Geovert managing all aspects of project implementation including planning, providing, recruitment, on boarding, travel and accommodation.
Our locally based regional management oversee all facets of delivery to ensure client satisfaction.
RTAY calculations show that rope access allows for 25% more tool time over scaffold, as well as the direct cost savings over the build, hire and deconstruction costs of scaffolding.
